The 2nd Annual “Funding Our Future: Pathways to Success” luncheon was held on Thursday, October 10th, 2013 at Casino Del Sol resort! Over 300 guests enjoyed a program filled with student entertainment. The String Quartet from Desert View High School serenaded our lunch guests as they entered the ballroom!
Under the direction of Robert Reyes, the quartet provided very strong evidence that music programs are ‘alive and well’ within Sunnyside Unified School District.
Leading off the luncheon program was Liberty Gifted & Talented Elementary Choir under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Rowe. These very talented 3rd, 4th and 5th graders were enjoyed by all!
Laura McGill, Deputy of Engineering at Raytheon gave the keynote address and shared some real Raytheon success stories of Sunnyside students that have been the beneficiaries of Raytheon employee tutoring and mentoring programs.
The Sunnyside Foundation honored ‘True Community Partners’; Affinity Financial Group and Pima Federal Credit Union. Following were presentations to three outstanding educators; Ava Bemer, Sierra Middle School; Debra Edwards, Desert View High School, and Linda Velazquez of Ocotillo Early Learning Center.
The luncheon was wrapped up by Rob Elias, Vice-President of Marketing at Pima Federal Credit Union who gave away 5 fully loaded laptop computers to 5 lucky Sunnyside students from “We the People” Civics class at Sunnyside High School and the Sunnyside Little League Softball Champions who were in the ballroom!
News of next year’s event will be posted shortly on our website. Thank you to our Board of Directors, our Sponsors, our Table Sponsors and all of our volunteers who helped make our 2nd annual event a huge success!
